Next Class: February 2020

NAMI Peer-to-Peer is an education and wellness program for adults (18 +) living with a mental health condition. The course helps participants understand the impact of symptoms on their life, develop skills to reduce stress, and experience support and reinforcement from others who can relate.  Taught by trained mentors who themselves live with a mental health condition, this program includes interactive exercises, presentations, discussion, and closes with Mindfulness Practice. Peer-to-Peer is held for 2 hours once a week for a total of 8 classes.

What are the goals of NAMI Peer-to-Peer?

  • Create a supportive community to aid in the wellness process.

  • Share current information on major mental health conditions and co-occurring disorders, as well as brain biology and medication 101.

  • Discuss the potential for living in recovery, including a wide range of treatment options, wellness strategies and support services.

  • Teach skills in the areas of problem-solving, communication, self-advocacy, and preventing crises and relapse.

  • Help navigating appropriate supports and services within the community and advocating for your needs.

Who is the Course Designed For?

The NAMI Peer-to-Peer course is suitable for adults (18+) living with a mental health condition, such as depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, schizophrenia, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), or co-occurring substance use disorder. This course places the highest priority on protecting the disclosure of the participants. Because of the need to preserve a safe place for participants, NAMI national has a strict policy of not allowing behavioral health care professionals, researchers, or family members to attend unless they themselves meet the criteria above.

What is the Commitment?

While the Peer-to-Peer course is free, we ask participants to commit to the full course (not missing more than two sessions) which takes place over 8, two-hour sessions.  You will receive as part of the course a free manual that is quite extensive and can be used as a reference for the years ahead as well as a customized relapse prevention plan. Please contact us if you have any hesitations or additional questions about the course.
