NAMI Basics is now available OnDemand. Register/download videos by clicking here.

NAMI Basics is a free, six-week program designed for parents and other family caregivers of children and adolescents (up to age 22) with emotional and behavioral difficulties. NAMI Basics helps caregivers understand the illnesses that are causing those behavioral difficulties, and the critical role families play in the treatment of those illnesses. Taught by trained facilitators -parents who have “been there”.

NAMI Basics helps families:

  • Develop the confidence and stamina to support their child with compassion

  • Prepare for interactions with the school and mental health care systems

  • Increase skills for crises management, problem-solving, and effective communication

  • Practice strategies for self-care and emotional resiliency

  • Understand the challenges and impact of mental health conditions on the entire family
